Creativity has a way of taking us beyond ourselves. Those of us who create—whether through music, writing, art, or movement—often find that the process brings us to places we couldn’t have anticipated. Places far beyond who or what we thought we were.
Today, I had one of those moments while singing. I’m not entirely sure where this song came from, but its fragments feel familiar:
Rhyming games from my childhood.
A whisper of William Blake’s “Tyger, Tyger.”
A hint of something else, like a work song—something meant to accompany physical labor, anchoring effort to rhythm and flow.
As I sang, the piece began to feel like the seed of something larger. Perhaps it will grow into a longer vocal exploration, maybe even one accompanied by percussion.
For now though, it’s a reminder of how art can surprise and stretch us, uncovering connections between memory, inspiration, and imagination.
If you’ve been yearning to awaken your own creativity, I invite you to experiment today— whether that’s through humming a melody, scribbling in a journal, or even revisiting the playful games and songs of your childhood. You never know what might emerge!
After all, creativity is just waiting for you to wake it up... I teach people how to unleash their creativity by freeing their voice, in addition to writing and movement.
